In late 2024, Monica Gustin traveled to New Zealand (Aotearoa), with her mom on a trip organized by Life Can Be A Trip, a company started by two of her former Erie Day School teachers, Ginny Rogers and Denise Padden. What began as a personal journey became a photographic reflection on place, memory, and cultural connection.
Her debut exhibition, showcased in May 2025 at Ember+Forge, Aotearoa, highlights the country’s stunning landscapes while honoring the Māori people and their deep ties to the land. The silver fern, a native symbol of strength and guidance, became a lasting emblem of the trip and a reminder to keep moving forward.
